NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIPS WEEK

Get work, get paid, get qualified, get a head start !  14-18 March 2016 saw Springwell celebrating National Apprenticeships Week 2016. Mrs Clarke (Careers Coordinator for Springwell) organised a mini Post 16 event.  Employers and apprenticeship providers were invited to come along to talk to students about their future career paths and to highlight the details of various apprenticeship schemes.

We would like to thank representatives from the following organisations who gave up their time to share their expertise with our students:  DART (Training Land-Based Industries); DNCC (Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce); NLT Training; The Army; Chesterfield College – Learning Unlimited; YMCA; Apprenticeship Team.

All of the providers commented about our students. They were extremely impressed with their confidence and level of questioning. All the providers are now looking forward to attending the main Post 16 event that we run annually in October.

SPRINGWELL EXCEEDS FUNDRAISING TARGET

Last term our Chair and Deputy Chair of Springwell's Students Matter Group had the privilege of presenting Ashgate Hospice with a cheque for £1445.  Since last September our college has been fundraising in lots of ways with a target to raise £1000, a fabulous achievement to surpass this.  Thanks to all the efforts and hard work of the Students Matter Group and all the students and staff at Springwell.  Well done.

There were a number of tremendous individual performances; leading the way were:  Ben Turner (6A*, 4A), William Antcliffe (4A*,6A), Dominic Lowe (5A* 1A) Cameron Slemon (3A*, 6A), Imogen Smith (2A*, 4A).

More information in our Exam Results section of the website.

UNIFORM UPDATE

I would like to thank parents/carers for the support that you have shown in purchasing the new college uniform, particularly in relation to the new uniform trousers, which the majority of parents have purchased.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control, we have been informed by parents/carers that Price & Buckland are unable to meet some orders due to some sizes being out of stock.  We also understand that there have been a number of concerns from parents/carers surrounding the ordering, delivery and sizing of uniform from the company.   We have been in touch with the company and are working with them to resolve these issues.

I would like to reassure parents and carers that guarantees of delivery and sizing were given to the college by the company.  However, we acknowledge the difficulties some of you are experiencing and we would like to offer support until the issues are resolved with Price and Buckland.

Those students who are affected by issues at Price & Buckland can wear black trousers from other suppliers, in line with the college code of dress policy, until a suitable solution has been found.  Please see the website's 'Code of Dress' section for uniform requirement for w/c Monday 5th September - 'follow link here'

I am sure that youwould agree that it is important that the college continues to apply the college code of dress consistently across the college so as to support those parents/carers who have adhered to our uniform guidelines.  Therefore, any infringement of the college uniform that is not due to an issue from Price and Buckland will still be addressed and the college rules will be followed.

I would like to thank those of you who have experienced difficulties for your patience and to reassure you that both Price and Buckland and ourselves are doing everything we can to resolve the problems as quickly as possible.

Mr I Wingfield, Headteacher

ARMISTICE DAY 2016

All staff and students came together this morning to pay their respects. Mr Allen read the poem ‘We Remember’ and ‘The Last Post’ was bugled by Owen, as the college fell silent for 2 minutes

PEAK FM SCHOLARSHIP DAY

Twelve Springwell students set about creating this year's Open Evening radio advert with Peak FM.  They were separated into two groups with the brief of producing and recording a catchy advert to promote this year's Open Evening, with the chosen advert being aired as part of the college's marketing plan.   We are hoping we have some future radio stars amongst our midst!
